Vertigo (Animation Machine)
Not sure if this was brought up on nekochan in the past, but the recent ElectroGig thread jogged my memory. Does anyone here remember Vertigo Animation Machine, a 3D ap for IRIX in the late 80s / early 90s? All i can recall is that it had some decent RenderMan integration.

If anyone has any further info it would be appreciated!

RE: Vertigo (Animation Machine)
I remember in an issue of CGW (computer graphics world) they reviewed the most popular 3D apps for windows, mac and SGI - kind of like a shootout. Alias scored a 9/10 and Vertigo only scored a 5/10. Vertigo lost many points due to the ambiguous interface being quite difficult to use. It did mention the implementation of renderman was a bonus.

Very little on the web relating to Vertigo. This SGI vid shows (among other things), a bit of the Vertigo Systems demo reel.

Vertigo was the first modeler I ever learned. If I recall correctly it’s competitive edge was ‘extrusions’ as a primitive type, which nobody else had at the time, they billed themselves as an ‘extrusion-based modeler’. It could also do parametric modeling really well if you could describe your shape from a formula. I made a lot of seashells with that program! The only thing I have left from that time is a faded thermal ink transfer printout from 1988 of a tin-can shape I made for a class project.

Thanks for also remembering it, I thought I was going crazy when I couldn’t find anything on the web like maybe I misremembered the name.
