Use indigo2 headless and console via serial port 1
I like to use a Indigo 2 headless and be able to install OS, boot and such remotely using serial port 1, how to do that?

On Suns you simpley remove the keyboard and power on and then Openboot and UNIX console will be redirected to COM A, how to do that on SGI/Indigo 2?

SGI: Indigo 2, Origin 200(not currently working)
Sun: SS5, SS10, SS20, U5, U10, Ultra1 170E C3D, Blade 100, Blade 1500 Silver, Blade 2500 Silver, U45, E250, E450, T1000, T2000, M3000

It should just work that way if you remove the monitor 13w3 signal cable (last I did this). If you have default NVRAM values you MAY need to also disconnect both PS/2 mouse and keyboard as well. But I’ve installed Irix and logged into it with a serial terminal on an Indigo2 about 3 years ago.

Just try it. Have terminal powered and connected before Indigo2 power-on. Disconnect all keyboard/mice/monitor cable from backend of computer and presto! In my case I don’t think I had the peripherals disconnected to see serial output but YMMV.

There is a graphics env variable you can set to force console, but you shouldn’t have to do that.

Let us know.
