Post deletion
Have the site admins ever had to delete posts from members who otherwise remained in good standing? I mean, other than that, I understand that posts from those who had to be banned were obviously deleted. Now, having asked that question, I fully understand if the admins don't want to elucidate their deletion policy, please delete this post. 😆

I know Pete had to delete more than a few long-time members at nekochan whose behavior had become entirely unacceptable...

RE: Post deletion
Hey Vishnu,

Thanks for the question. Let me break this down into four smaller questions:

1. Do I silently delete posts from users?

Yes. But I will DM one or more users as to why. This isy own personal style of handling issues, as there's a contingent of people who hate me and use normally reasonable posts as reasons to propagandize it. It's better to be unceremonious and quiet for me, for other staff it's probably unnecessary

2. Do we mass delete user accounts and their posts?

No. I will prune users that have no posts and more than 2 years of inactivity, but that's about it.

3. Do we delete user accounts when banning or other stuff?

No. With the exception of Mr. Pisani this has never been done.

4. If a user asks for deletion, do we do it?

No. But a user can delete his posts.

I have no idea what's going on with such crabapples, but the same thing happened at nekochan, people were disrespecting Pete for absolutely no reason and I think that's why Pete ended up slamming the door, using the EU's then-new cookie notification policy as an excuse.

Pete was receiving harassment from our local brand of crazy, yeah. He also basically turned over the site without full access to his various moderators.

I won't pretend that I'm perfect. But people underestimate my resolve. I'm not the type of person to walk away from things. For those who remember 2019 and 2020, there were times that i was brought to my knees. Now and then things happen that definitely dampen me, but I don't stay down forever.

I'm aware that some of the staff members here are sometimes less active than me but that's kind of the reason why I've kept things going so aggressively. I know that I haven't been able to attend to my obligations in a while. I had to take a little break for a bit in 2021 and I also have been dealing with post pandemic housing stuff, but I just revamped my office and things are starting to come together for me to be able to sit down and do some major work for this. In the future things will be pretty easy to deal with.

It never fails to astound me the trivial bullshit some people can find to flame others about. Not necessarily here because I assume that most, if not all, of the crap you've received here came from PMs, but for example on Usenet which, until it met its untimely demise, was basically just a huge flamefest. Even in the tiny group of dedicated users that used to inhabit alt.os.linux.slackware things were pretty ugly most of the time.

Yeah, it's hard to believe how quickly things can get out of hand if people do not have to face each other.

Our little community seems to be the island of happiness in that regard...

Keep that resolve! And that song is for you:
