80pin to 50pin scsi adaptors
Since 50pin SCSi Hard drives are becoming hard to find, I have been seeing lots of 80pin more modern ultra SCSI hard drives sold with the 80-50 pin adaptors.

Anyone try one of these adaptors in an Indy or other older SGIS that require a 50pin SCSI interface?  Just want to know if they really work as this could be an easy way to increase storage capacity.

RE: 80pin to 50pin scsi adaptors
Talk to Ian Mapleson.  I know that he more commonly uses 80-pin drives with adapters than actual 50-pin drives in the systems he sells.  His website (sgidepot.co.uk) might have more info about which adapters and drives he's had success with.  IIRC, there are some caveats to be aware of, but I don't know specifics.  There was much discussion on Nekochan about the topic, too.

RE: 80pin to 50pin scsi adaptors
In short, yes they work - most of them. However, not all drives work with them because some drives won't fall back sufficiently to support the older SCSI bus on an Indy. With testing on my Indigo2 and the pile of drives I've acquired over the years (around 20-30 of them, mainly from scrapped servers), I'd guess somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3 of them worked.

Ian can sell you a working adapter and an HDD guaranteed to work in an Indy if you want.

I have an adapter SCA-to-50 on my Iris Indigo R3k, but only disks with Single Ended selector are working.
