RE: Path to upgrading my Alienware Area 51 7500
I had some drama this morning when trying to fire up my Alienware system for the first time in months!!!! (Liquid Cooling Loop Pump failure!!!)

At first I thought that the CPU had cooked itself, but luckily after "de-modding" the system (replacing the original cooler), I was happy to find that the CPU still works!

Nothing like completely rebuilding a PC at 06:00 in the morning!!! (The motherboard had to be removed for me to reinstall the cooler's bracket!!!)

Here's the removed cooling loop:

Here's the "de-modded" system:

I cracked the pump open, and the impeller was indeed ceased due to an ethylene glycol buildup.

I cleaned it, and the impeller now spins normally when power's applied!

I won't be installing liquid cooling into any other systems in a hurry!!!

You should just use water, ethylene glycol only has two thirds the heat dissipating capability of water. Yes it has a higher boiling point, but if your liquid cooling system reaches the boiling point of water you're already in a whole world of hurt.. 😲

Project: Temporarily lost at sea
Plan: World domination! Or something...

I agree completely! (I would only use distilled water if I had to install liquid cooling into a machine again!)

In this case, the fluid did in-fact start to boil!!! Luckily the CPU's thermal protection kicked in and saved the day! (I initially had no idea as to what was going on with the machine, as it just shut down and wouldn't POST or give me a graphical output!!!)

It was only when I proceeded to open the machine, that I noticed that the fluid wasn't flowing!

I won't be fitting the liquid cooling loop back into this machine, as they require maintenance, and I don't intend powering this machine up again in a very long time! (The air cooling actually works pretty well, as shown in the video!)
