First Render on my Onyx RE2

First Render on my Onyx RE2
Here's my very first full render done on a RealityEngine2 Onyx via Lightwave 5.6

Props to CaseyC Benn on YouTube for posting a great walk through of LW Modeler and LW Layout. This was the first time I had dived into Lightwave and it was a very pleasant experience!

1280x1024 render with shadow tracing, reflections, and ray tracing. Exported to a Targa file and then converted in Photoshop to JPEG. No touch-ups applied.

I don't have the exact render time as I left the machine to do its business for quite a while. If I had to hazard a guess I'd say it was somewhere around 2 - 2.5 hours. I'll be sure to set a timer next go round.

Onyx Specs:
4x 200MHz R4400 processors
512MB of RAM
RE2 with 4x RM5's

Very nice.

His tutorial is truly excellent. My first render also came with the help.
Although my single CPU Octane took some 3 days to finish what I tried to accomplish. =))

I’ve noticed that… seems I can’t see it when browsing via Safari or Firefox mobile. I can see it on my desktop but I had to whitelist SiliconImage to do that.

Oh niiice! Just saw this just now. Really turned out great! ... and on an Onyx?

I was honestly surprised how nice a render one could get out of 5.6 by today's standards when I went back to it.

I started with LW 4.0 in 1995 and of course also had 5.5 and 5.6 later on. I think the main difference here is that on a PC you would avoid using Area lights since they would slow down your render considerably, where as on an SGI they weren't really that costly in a 64 bit environment.
