I get perfect output at 1280x1024 on my 1080p Dell P2418HT screen with firmware M2T102.

Hmmm….I have a theory but the darn manual is missing the “sync” line in the specs that Dell Used to put out until around 2009!!!  So those aren’t stated anywhere.

However I do not think it’s SOG compliant, it appears to be SOG tolerant (still requiring H/V sync).  I say this because in the manual the OSD menu has an RGB selector for the VGA standard that claims to also cover DVD.

So I think their implying it’s Macrovison immune (clamps chroma).  If that’s true it might clamp all signals and thereby filter the green signal’s “tint”/sync signal out.

Would be great if modern documentation said something (but I’ve seen Dell omit this line in all new Dell monitors I’ve purchase in the last 11 years), sad because you look at monitors from like 2007, it says yes or no right in the manual.  Now they hide/lie.

Love the stand!

I hate modern documentation. It went downhill the last 10-15 years.

I had a troubleshooting call with Zoom last week and "well, this should work", but it doesn't.
Clients don't create proper logs files. You need a fat binary built after internal checks within Zoom and their legal department, to give permission to build you a fat binary that generates debug logs. Said logs are encrypted and only the vendor can read.

Specification documents? More like sales leaflets. They don't say or state anything.
Same with the hardware vendors I cope with. I'm in a project to purchase monitors for offices . I've been in touch with Dell and NEC.
I ask their representatives "can I get telemetry data via serial or IP?", "if not plain syslog, do you have any sort of documented APIs?"

Getting such answers takes weeks of escalations.

But yes, the monitor works ok. The colours are a bit washed out and I need to reduce gamma on the Octane. But it works super.

edit: I see this contradicts my previous statement but what I mean is that it synchronises perfectly. I can change resolutions, etc.. =)

Thanks all, gents.

I took an old 24" Samsung S24F356FH monitor (24" 1920x1080, HDMI + VGA inputs), it works great with Indigo 2. My much more modern AOC has absolute no image Smile

Did you check the refresh rate? Many, many modern SOG-capable/tolerant monitors have hard refresh rate caps of 60Hz, while SGI's default to 75hz.

If that's the problem, you can change the video mode using the video tool, reboot, and switch to the nicer monitor.

PS -- If you have Impact graphics, you can also use a custom vfo file to get a 1080p/60Hz output (probably ... it requires running the Impact at very close to its pixel clock limits and some monitors are finicky).

Hey, this would very much interest me. I always thought 1280x1024 was a hard limit.
Any tips?
My Octane has an Impact.

And... finally... will I be stuck without output in case I make a mistake?

If you use xsetmon it will revert after 15 sec if it doesn't work.
