DVD Drive on O2 Question

DVD Drive on O2 Question
I had some trouble trying to read cd-recordable disks on my O2. I replaced the cd-rom drive on my system - the original was broken, and the new drive is so old, i think it was made before cd-r existence. So, if i load an original cd music disk, the drive read it - and after that , i can load cd-r burned on my PC on it. But if i try to load cd-r first, the drive won't load it. I am going to get an dvd-rom scsi 50 pin driver, but O2 work with DVD-rom? What i need to do to get it working? Any help will be much apreciated. Thanks!

RE: DVD Drive on O2 Question
Works with several Toshiba DVD-ROMs but their EJECT BUTTONS DO NOT ALIGN, so the front eject button won't work you'll have to be inventive during OS install. You can use OS commands during normal operation to eject...but if you cannot use the commands...you'll to use the emergency hole or something. If you buy the right Toshibas you can attach the front tray face from the old drive so it looks okay.

I swear I saw someone product an eject-button 3D print years ago...but I cannot find anything now..shame.

Thanks weblacky for the reply. I already have one Toshiba cdrom on my o2 and it's indeed a pain open the tray. I got this machine without the front tray face and the old owner cutoff the plastic around the drive , believe me...

OOOOOOOHHHHHH...Sorry to hear that. Well in that case, maybe do a plan B. Buy a SLOT LOADING Pioneer (they should work, like a 305) and then get some plastic or something and make a face with a slot? Best of luck!

RE: DVD Drive on O2 Question
I found a SLOT LOADING Pioneer, the price is the same as SCSI2SD and don't know what choice to stick. Some users say SCSI2SD has CDROM option to configure but don't know if works with O2. Any way i guess it's more safe to get a DVD-ROM.

May I humbly suggest that if you’re having a dilemma/concerns about a purchase that sometimes that’s nature’s way of saying your rushing and perhaps should slow down for a moment and evaluate your real goal here.

If I may remind you, you’re not going to be watching Video DVDs on the system and there are no community Irix Install DVD media to be had so with those two activities crossed off your list, if you cannot see yourself using it for anything and the price is just too high then maybe just walk away for now and start a new thread asking people to share their experiences using a SCSI2SD on an O2 and maybe you’ll find the utility (real world, based on others experiences) of more value to purchase. Then again perhaps you’ll decide in the end that an optical in your O2 just won’t be used and instead but forward the effort to find a fair deal on replacement skins for your O2 to patch up the damage by the previous owner(s), perhaps in real terms, that actually is the part bugging you the most.

I was recently on eBay and saw very fair pricing for pioneer slot loading DVDs (have one on order) that was like $80 after tax & S/H (I’m in an eBay tax state so that price is after everything, final bill, so a SCSI2SD would be ~$20+ more.  I’ll admit that’s maybe not far off but it’s still more). So I know there are better deals than something with a price tag to rival a SCSI2SD.  Perhaps let that one go and keep looking until you’re comfortable.

They aren’t that scarce right now, they’re not going anywhere.
