Thank you for the confirmation! It helps to know that it's at least jumpered the "correct" way.

Can you give us any more info on the SLOT Jumper configuration?

Keith,

Any chance you could check your address switches for me? This is how mine are set:

Mine is set at A, 0.  The board isn't in the Onyx, I found an ASO for the Onyx and went with that so the Vigra's sitting around collecting dust.

Looking at saved hard copies of Nekochan posts I came across this from 2008, might help...

RE: Looking for VigraSound Manual
This is definitely helpful! I’ve been looking in the /var/sysgen folder and poking around at the various files Vigra installs. I hadn’t looked at the init files.

I’m also wondering why autoconfig can’t probe the board. hinv reports it still but when autoconfig runs and looks for the Vigra board in VME slot 0 (where it’s installed and reported correctly) it fails at probing. Would be a bummer if this board is somehow dead.

RE: Looking for VigraSound Manual
UPDATE:

I decided to switch versions and see how IRIX 6.2 would handle the board. Before I was running 5.3 and using VigraSound 1.1. 6.2 requires VigraSound 2.2 which has a few bug fixes.

While perusing the relnotes for the software (both 1.1 and 2.2) I caught one line which I thought might help a bit with troubleshooting: the driver is meant to be installed under the miniroot and not graphically with Software Manager. Now the notes do not specifically say you can’t install it with the GUI—it simply notes miniroot next to installation method—I wanted to see if that would help fix any of the issues I was having.

I wiped my disk and proceeded to install 6.2 and before exiting the miniroot and prepping for a reset I installed the 2.2 drivers.

Upon first boot I finally got the driver to load! However, the driver also reported that it was unable to load any microcode into the DSP on the sound board. So, a big step forward and a small (maybe larger) step back.

I’m going to continue seeing if I need to mess with any init files or do anything else to get this board to work, but I at least know that I can successfully load the drivers into 6.2.

Lastly: when I logged in as root and attempted to open the audio panel the system hard froze. Pretty much in line with what I’ve read happens when the board is acting up.

To be continued!

RE: Looking for VigraSound Manual
UPDATE:

kshuff came to the rescue and hooked me up with another Vigra board. I can now report that I have functioning sound on my Onyx! I’m running IRIX 6.2 with VigraSound 2.2 and the system is stable and snappy! The only odd experience I had was having to install the board in slot 1, instead of 0, and then jumper it on the backplane. For whatever reason the board would not initialize in slot 0. A minor issue that’s easy enough to work around.

RE: Looking for VigraSound Manual
So what about your old board? You had a make a bunch of changes to get this alternate board to install, do those same settings allow you to install your original board?

No. The original board doesn't want to power up for whatever reason. It's likely an issue on the board itself, which I'd need to dig into to figure out. I tried the same things with it and it still didn't want to work. The replacement board had no issues, besides what I mentioned about it not wanting to work in slot 0.

Since VIGRA is a 6U-Board, is it installed in the upper or lower 2/3 of Onyx 9U Card Cage?
