What do you use your SGI for?

What do you use your SGI for?
Figured that I would ask.... What are you all doing on your SGIs?

I do mostly 3D rendering and animation.. some video work... not really into compiling stuff, porting or any of that jazz... I am using my Indigo R4K as a 12K typewriter as I have always preferred a good old solid mechanical keyboard for typing..

So, what are you all using your big, small or medium iron for?

I edit my family video footage on my Tezro regularly. The other machines I have to admit, are collectors items and are switched on once a year.

I don’t want to go down the rabbit hole investing time & energy into getting and learning software for these machines. They are collectibles to me and living history to learn and take some inspiration from.

Yes, it’s important that they actually do work. But I don’t think I’ll be doing much additional software loading on them after a stable OS.

If I can find any automation, like roboinst, I’ll maybe place the softWindows apps and the basic adobe apps for prestige.

Otherwise, they are wall art that runs. It’s like having a Ferrari in the garage (I don’t) that you take out only a few times year, but keep in running condition (within reason).

Though after what I’ve learned I do need to ensure I run them quarterly from now on to slow capacitor degradation.

I use mine mostly to learn coding.
I am slowly but surely learning C, with some interest in OpenGL, and I always make sure that my code builds on all machines that I own.

Simple OpenGL is super to be able to visualize the ideas expressed in your code and go beyond stdout.

I'd say I use my Octane some 4 hours per week, and I will probably look for another system that I can use for more experimentation, since my Octane is fully loaded.
I also use a HP-UX machine some 4 hours per week as well.

Hi Geoman, what software / hardware do you use for video editing with Tezro?
