Problems getting indigo 2 ev1 option video board to work
Hi!,

Having issues getting my Indigo 2 to recognize an ev1 video option board.
The configuration is indigo 2 IP28 R10000, running IRIX 6.5.22.
First, the video board was fitted into a high impact. But now for testing moved it to a sold impact card.

The card was installed for eons on this machine and reported in system information as "video option board installed".
But always think it was bad because the video media apps never worked.
Yesterday learned that I was missing the drivers and they were located in the unbundled directory in the overlay disc 2 of irix 6.5.22.
So installed most of the packages from there, and was asked by the software manager for a bunch of other driver disks as galileo, impact, octane compression, octane video, and divo bunch of software dependencies.

At first, the board kinda worked the computer started and the media video software in irix worked, and the video input showed ok.
But there were some issues the indycam was connected but the input didn't work, also the media panel sometimes got stuck and have to restart.
Then this got worse and now the indigo 2 refuses to start having the video option board present.

First of all, every time I turned on this system the firmware will show this warning but is not related.
sc0,1: Unexpected extended msgin type3, len 2

Then irix will start to boot.
But after showing this message from:
ev1 board reset
The system will panic: kernel fault and halt.

Now it will never work the system will segfault like this every time if the option video board is installed.

So not sure what the warning means, and maybe the video option board is bad so any help is appreciated.

RE: Problems getting indigo 2 ev1 option video board to work
I have the same option board but haven't got around to installing it. But from my understanding it sounds like there may have been a driver order problem. By that I mean if you presented it with the most recent driver and then it asked for the old driver as an entitlement, the older driver may have been installed instead of the newest one.

Why don't you try this, go to SGI Depot (http://sgidepot.co.uk/depot/) and download the 6.5 drivers for it. Try to perform a clean install and just introduced to drivers from SGI Depot. If it complains then show at the drivers from your disc.

Sounds like the board likely works and the wrong version of the drivers probably got installed.

Let us know.

Yes, that is exactly what happens here.
Someway the old driver ended up installed and was crashing the system.
Removed all the video software, and extra software that was installed for octane, etc.

Now install first the 6.5 driver disc and when complained about incompatibly and asked for another disk added the unbundled folder. This time only added the indigo 2 IMPACT video and nothing else.
Now everything works ok.
