IRIS Indigo -- 5.3 Network setup and MAC Address woes

RE: IRIX 5.3 Networking Setup
I don't know. It should be a 93C56. I would have to open up my Indigo to check this. I know I switched these to exchange ethernet addresses between machine years ago. I wouldn't insist that the chips are socketed on all the Indigos however.

RE: IRIX 5.3 Networking Setup
great. Just remember that you can only reprogram the ethernet address on an R3000, but you can "upgrade" to R4000 later. The R4000 uses a different memory address for the MAC and automatically copies the MAC from the R3000 position to the new R4000 position. Downgrading (R4k -> R3k) however will void the MAC address, so you would have to reprogram in that case.

Yes understood, as I swapped boards, also it removed the password in the PROM as a simple bonus... when the R3K board went into the R4K then back into the R3K.

Then I have no immediate idea. Can you give the syntax you are using? Maybe someone else has an idea. Normally, this should work.

You usually have to use fill commands. They're gonna likely be different from the Indy version tho:

http://wiki.irixnet.org/Indy

The Indy procedure is here. I don't know what they are for the Indigo.

I found this old page:
http://sgifiles.irixnet.org/sgi/indigo/hacks/

Claims you should just say: eaddr 08:00:06:12:34:56

No setenv or whatever...so try that and see?
