Anyone have the last version of SGI Customer Diagnostics for Irix 6.5.30?

Anyone have the last version of SGI Customer Diagnostics for Irix 6.5.30?
Yo,
I need a working version of the extensive diags to test my Fuel (and Octanes later on)...I know Ian has Customer Diagnostics 2.6 for Irix 6.5.26 here: http://sgidepot.co.uk/depot/

However I'm not understanding if I can really install an older version of these files into a later version of Irix (since they did make newer packages). I'm told that the version I'd want for Irix 6.5.30 is version 2.10 (info written here: https://irix7.com/techpubs/007-4517-011.pdf).

Any help on understanding this would be appreciated, I will need to run basic stuff but I really need to make sure I have what I need to run the exhaustive graphics hardware tests (which I assume are online diags).

The versions of Irix I deal with the most is 6.522 and 6.5.30...so If I can install Customer 2.6 on Irix 6.5.22, that would be great...so I'd just be worried about Irix 6.5.30.

Thanks!

The hardware diagnostics doesn't know or care what version of IRIX is installed. It only matters whether it recognizes the system's hardware.
That being said, the field diagnostics should be found on any bootable install disc. Try Disc 1 of the 6.5.30 set. It's called "ide.IPxx" where IPxx is your processor model number.

What is rare and unobtainium are the factory diagnostics. They are not the same and report "ide factory" instead of "ide field" when started.

Interesting. If anyone has the ide factory diags, please come forward and I'll put them up when we get a new ftp box

How certain are you on this?

I'm reading Fuel Tech Pub, Page 115: http://www.sgistuff.net/hardware/systems...1-fuel.pdf

I want the "runalldiags" script for online tests in OS to run extensive graphics card tests (I guess...as offline has NO graphics card test according to this manual?!?!).

Can you resolve my confusion on what this "Customer Diagnostics CD" versus the "included" Diags in /stand on the Irix media really is?

Thanks.

This is true for the older systems, and only the workstations (ESD division), not the big iron (ASD division). Then again, for older big iron (PowerSeries and older), an IDE was supplied with IRIX, and for newer workstations (Fuel, Tezro) is isn't.

Starting with the Onyx there's something based on a diagnostics kernel (SMDK), and consequently this trickled down to newer workstations (Fuel, Tezro). SMDK is more tightly coupled with IRIX. Then there's the stress test (pandora) which is relatively IRIX version independent. The SMDK based diagnostics are not included with IRIX. The 6.5.26 Fuel diagnostics that Ian has is one of many I have:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2816000 Jun 30  2006 ws_field_diags_stand-6530.tar

These only work on the Fuel.

For the big iron there's special Diagnostics discs. They are most useful to test big iron graphics older than IR, because for those no diagnostics were included with IRIX. They are super in-depth: they check generated display output against 'golden' images. As a result they are not only IRIX specific, an IRIX patch that happens to update e.g. your GE firmware will make the tests fail.

In short: these are super useful to find hardware failure in your VGX, RE etc, but only if you read the documentation that comes with them and stay withing the boundaries where they are supposed to work. They are not click & forget like the workstation diags. I assume these are still field diagnostics, but meant for big iron field techs. I have a handful of them, for IRIX 4.0.5, 5.3, 6.0 .. 6.2

I have one IST (Internal Support Tools) disc. It's version 2.7 from 2002. I got it from someone in SGI. Last time I mentioned that online, SGI got in touch and told me not to put it online  Undecided Newer versions must exist, the infamous L3 emulator software that floats around is a newer version than whats on my IST-2.7 disc.

Still, I believe most tests on the IST disc are field tests.

RE: Anyone have the last version of SGI Customer Diagnostics for Irix 6.5.30?
Hi Weblacky,

I have the following installed on my Fuel:
- IRIX based Fuel Offline Diagnostic Environment for 6.5.19m
- IRIX based Fuel Online Diagnostic Environment for IRIX 6.5.15+ (Version 1.4)

Both of these were already installed on the Fuel when I got it and I have not been able to source the distribution CD they came from, but I can zip up files into tar if you want.

EDIT #1: I read the release notes of what is on my Fuel and it looks like a particular release of broader set of diagnostic tools that Jan-Jaap has, the release notes are under: ast... and one set mentions SMDK and some of the files overlap with what Ian had.
It looks like the "stand" sets are the "Offline Diagnotics" and the "ws_field_diags_irix-6515_6530.tar" are likely the "Online" ones.

Cheers from Oz,

jwhat/John

RE: Anyone have the last version of SGI Customer Diagnostics for Irix 6.5.30?
Wow, Okay this has turned more complex and scattered than I’d hoped.

I’ve never heard of Pandora as well, so more info on that might be good.

Did SGI not provide a way to do in-depth graphics testing by customers on-site before a customer would complain about bad hardware or a lemon product?

I was expecting a textbook answer of, “run diagnostics, if anything fails, report what failed” sort of answer.

Right now it appears that Ian’s field test files are the same thing Jwhat has, but newer.

So can I install an older field test on a later Irix?

I know it’s close but it seems they had a field test coupled to each Irix version from supportfolio. I could try to track down Irix 6.5.26 specifically for running Ian’s field-test files. But I only have official media for Irix 6.5.19 and 6.5.30.

RE: Anyone have the last version of SGI Customer Diagnostics for Irix 6.5.30?
Hi Indigofan,

thanks very much for providing the link.

I think this is older version of the package that I have installed on my machine it has:
- IRIX based Asterix Offline Diagnostic Environment for 6.5.15m
- IRIX based Asterix Online Diagnostic Environment for IRIX 6.5.15+

Is "Asterix" the code name for Fuel ?

I still think it would be worth checking Jan-Jaap's:
- ws_field_diags_irix-6515_6530.tar

To see if this contains the more recent version of offline/online tools as per the Fuel doco that Weblacky referenced at the start.

And this one:
- ws_field_diags_stand-6530.tar

To see if it contains anything additional in way of "offline" (stand) but also for other machines than just Fuel,

Cheers from Oz,
