That being said, the field diagnostics should be found on any bootable install disc. Try Disc 1 of the 6.5.30 set. It's called "ide.IPxx" where IPxx is your processor model number.
This is true for the older systems, and only the workstations (ESD division), not the big iron (ASD division). Then again, for older big iron (PowerSeries and older), an IDE was supplied with IRIX, and for newer workstations (Fuel, Tezro) is isn't.
Starting with the Onyx there's something based on a diagnostics kernel (SMDK), and consequently this trickled down to newer workstations (Fuel, Tezro). SMDK is more tightly coupled with IRIX. Then there's the stress test (pandora) which is relatively IRIX version independent. The SMDK based diagnostics are not included with IRIX. The 6.5.26 Fuel diagnostics that Ian has is one of many I have:

These only work on the Fuel.
For the big iron there's special Diagnostics discs. They are most useful to test big iron graphics older than IR, because for those no diagnostics were included with IRIX. They are super in-depth: they check generated display output against 'golden' images. As a result they are not only IRIX specific, an IRIX patch that happens to update e.g. your GE firmware will make the tests fail.
In short: these are super useful to find hardware failure in your VGX, RE etc, but only if you read the documentation that comes with them and stay withing the boundaries where they are supposed to work. They are not click & forget like the workstation diags. I assume these are still field diagnostics, but meant for big iron field techs. I have a handful of them, for IRIX 4.0.5, 5.3, 6.0 .. 6.2

I have one IST (Internal Support Tools) disc. It's version 2.7 from 2002. I got it from someone in SGI. Last time I mentioned that online, SGI got in touch and told me not to put it online

Newer versions must exist, the infamous L3 emulator software that floats around is a newer version than whats on my IST-2.7 disc.
Still, I believe most tests on the IST disc are field tests.
