Remote X on SGI is broken unfortunately on modern systems. . modern versions of X on Linux and BSD do not allow mixed endian x clients/servers.

There are potential workarounds for this but out of the box is a giant pain in the ass

If my memory doesn't fail me, Cameron Kaiser posted about it a year or two ago and it didn't seem so complicated.

It was very usual that I'd launch a browser via X. The colours were always messy with a PPC Linux or IRIX server, but perfect under hppa HP-UX. Reading this made me realise that for a year or two I've been keeping my FreeBSD laptop next time to do web when I use my old machines, and just use NFS back-and-forth.
