SGI InPerson Software

RE: SGI InPerson Software
Still, I mean... I don't know anything about InPerson, but I'd love to bridge it to Zoom just because. =)))
If it does H.323, I bet we can make it work.

And yes, being out of the infrastructure sucks. It's no exaggeration that 50% of the issues I end up stuck troubleshooting end up being caused by wi-fi or laptops thermal throttling once all the corporate background crappy services kick in during a conference. And it's usually high managers and directors that end up coming directly to me and my colleagues. Most folks go directly through the support channels.

The thing I would like to do is much simpler. I'd like to get another person with InPerson and an SGI camera and try to do a video conference. No doubt it would still work between two SGIs as long as they're both connected to the internet.

You'd wanna do a VPN to simplify this.

I'm the system admin of this site. Private security technician, licensed locksmith, hack of a c developer and vintage computer enthusiast.

https://codeberg.org/SolusRaion -- Code repos I control

Technical problems should be sent my way.

RE: SGI InPerson Software
I tried inPerson like 20+ years ago, I thought it was simple to just call an IP address and get two stations to talk. From what I remember there wasn’t any “main server” component that was required.

I think if you did it right you were suppose to use some form of directory to lookup people. I never really bothered to look into it.

I thought I just ran it, of course Irix had no default firewall, typed in the destination IP (both clients running) and the call worked.

Same with the old MS Netmeeting!

Awesome! Is NetMeeting 1.0 the only version that works with InPerson?

RE: SGI InPerson Software
Don’t quote me but I thought NetMeeting as a product was a H323 implementation, then came the next product name which used a different protocol?

After all, when I was trying this Windows 2000 and then Windows XP were the thing, so beside Wikipedia claiming all netmeetings are H323, I think I used the last netmeeting.

It was like nearly 20 years ago so, whatever the version was at the time.

Did you use it with SGI Meeting or InPerson? They're 2 different products and I can't find anything online about InPerson supporting NetMeeting, but SGI Meeting certainly does.. SGI Meeting required a license. InPerson did not.

Hmm, I cannot remember. Likely the free one, SGI meeting? Either they are complimentary products or InPerson is a superset product that still uses H322, however I’m sure that’s audio only.

RE: SGI InPerson Software
Maybe if we started a discord server specifically for IRIXNetwork users to chat via InPerson meetings, we could share all of the needed info that way (Like security codes and IP Address contacts and everything like that), and that way some of us could talk face to face on our workstations

Well, if it is really H.323 and you need IPs and want to quickly test dialing out, let me know.
I have access to bridges.
