Recreated O350 KB, mouse and serial boards
Hey Guys,
I have recreated the O350 PS2 and serial interface board and will be assembling and testing them next month when the PCBs arrive.

These are version 1 that have the ESD protection on the PS2 ports but I did not put the EMI filtering on the board as these are geared towards the hobby guys and not data centers.
I have breadboarded this setup and it works. Price point for assembled boards will be around $100
Version 1 was done to keep the costs down. I will create a version 2 board with the EMI chips if there is a demand for it.

I am looking into recreating the O350 drive backplane. This one will take more time due to being multilayer.
Thanks,
John
UPDATE: I have the boards and the DB9 parts but still waiting on the other stuff but here is what it looks like.

How do you add a photo to a post response from a local hard drive?  Not much to see due to the ground planes. When I open the chassis this weekend I will send some photos of the breadboard setup.

The attachment system is broken at the moment. I'm fixing it but it's taking time.

You can use a remote host like postimages.org or siliconimage.irixnet.org (the latter is by us) for hosting them.

I'm the system admin of this site. Private security technician, licensed locksmith, hack of a c developer and vintage computer enthusiast.

https://contrib.irixnet.org/raion/ -- contributions and pieces that I'm working on currently.

Technical problems should be sent my way.

Well the first batch of boards are no good because I boneheaded and got the PS2 connector footprint reversed. I have made the changes and ordered a new batch.
I will update when they get here.

Very cool! I know you have the inside track on all things SGI, do you have the circuit diagrams for these or did you have to reverse engineer them?

No drawings, I reverse engineered these from factory hardware. I wish I could find schematics for the scsi backplane as I want to remake those next.

RE: Recreated O350 KB, mouse and serial boards
Hey Guys,
I have finished tested the PS2 boards. These work as the originals with the only difference being that there are no ESD chips on the serial ports. Adding these chips more than doubles the cost of the boards. I don't have the little plastic standoffs and don't plan on making them.

The PS2 ports do have the ESD diodes installed.

I have 3 boards built and tested and waiting on connectors to build another 10 if anybody is interested. $100 plus shipping.

You have to disassemble the machine to install these (or the factory ones) as the main board has to be moved forward to install the boards. That said if you are handy with a soldering iron I can ship it to you with the bottom connector un-installed. This enables you to put the connector into the mainboard and then slip the PS2 board on and then solder the connector. I only recommend this for experienced users.

Thanks,
John
