IRIX emulation is here!
RE: IRIX emulation is here!
You're not going to be able to run an octane. The R10000 isn't emulated. Half of the hardware on it isn't emulated. It's a complete redesign and a different architecture entirely.

This is experimental on Indy, and WIP/TBA on pretty much everything else.

What are you trying that requires an octane?

Hi!

I guess it is not emulated yet but here a link of the PROM for SGI machines i have found:

http://mirror.rqsall.com/prom/

Best regards!

Yes yes we know about that resource. I'm not uploading useless PROMs to our servers. Nobody ever really needs to flash it.

Didn't read the thread so please don't kill me if this was already discussed.
I wonder if there will be a sgi/mips core for the mister fpga or another fpga board.
Wouldn't fpga's be the best bet for IRIX emulation?

RE: IRIX emulation is here!
FPGAs have been discussed very BRIEFLY here, but the biggest issue is a lack of documentation. Sure, we can sort of emulate MAME at the speed of a sloth with AIDS, but we can't quite translate that into a bit-by-bit feature complete hardware implementation. As I mentioned last year, when Rackable bought SGI they took a large room full of documentation including engineering manuals and other things we'd need to make that happen, and shredded ALL of it. Eng Lim Goh is your man for that.

It's not impossible, but it would be a major undertaking. I'm not discouraging you from asking, but keep in mind it's more than just an R4k CPU

I'm having trouble with Indy emulation in MAME 0.242. The startup sound plays at a lower pitch and I can't do anything with the mouse or keyboard.

The machine doesn't boot into IRIX either. Just gives me this:

Vector=UTLB Miss - a UTLB is a user managed translation load balancer as explained in excruciating detail here, including methods to recover from a miss, which this emulator apparently can't do, or, at least can't do yet:

UTLB Miss actually means TLB miss from user mode.

We have perfect R4000 TLB emulation in MAME. You usually see "UTLB Miss" because there is something went wrong in PROM or early stage of IRIX boot, most likely because you forget to set eaddr in PROM.

In case someone wants to speed up their MAME IRIX install, try this https://forums.irixnet.org/thread-2923-p...l#pid32500
