IRIXCE - Patchset 1 RFC

RE: IRIXCE - Patchset 1 RFC
As expected, some snags have occurred. I want everyone to understand that this is all part of the learning process, as patching IRIX is a process I've had to learn blindly.

On the upside, I found some workarounds to make packaging this easier. I didn't actually know this until today, for instance, but IRIX's Perl doesn't actually store Perl libs and stuff in the /usr/lib-- directories. it uses /usr/share/lib

That's useful, because I'm currently rebuilding Perl with /usr/share/lib32 being the prefix for Perl and thus making it easier to reap them and updates into the IDB. Similarly, TCL and TK are getting rebuilt for that prefix as well. This will hopefully make a standard for adding new inbuilt languages (like eventually Python) easier.

This is such a cool work.

I'm saving some cash to be able to get my own SGI and be able to contribute and join the party. =)

I don't know if you're still considering ksh93, but there was an announcement posted to the comp.unix.shell newsgroup today about an update to ksh93 being released.  Project info is here:

I'm not considering it right now. There's issues with IRIX's ksh (it uses -l for test commands, everything else including ksh93 does -L) plus ksh93 has a kludgy build system.
