IRIXCE - Patchset 1 RFC

RE: IRIXCE - Patchset 1 RFC
Do keep in mind mbedtls isn't a drop-in replacement for OpenSSL, and a lot of software is lacking support for it, which is a bit of a pain. For instance I recently built nginx and postfix for my server here but neither support it so I'm having to setup an SSL tunnel to connect through (which is annoying because it breaks things like allowed sending hosts in postfix).

Deeply aware of that. Really it's a stopgap for now in lieu of something better.

If it's stopgap can't openssl 1.0.2 fill that void with the hope that someday 1.1.1 (or 3.0.x) will build again in the future?

[Or both... Not trying to diminish the work done for mbedtls just thinking out loud because openssl is so deeply used]

RE: IRIXCE - Patchset 1 RFC
Yeah I'm already working on 1.0.2 it's just slow going. for one thing I was working this week on my little brother's birthday gift as well as doing a couple of repairs to my house (I'm going to have to repair the plaster in some areas due to a terrible roof leak.)

I've got a million things on my plate as you probably have noticed as my attention tends to divert all over the website.

Currently openssl does not have any dependencies, so I was thinking it wouldn't be a big deal to leave it out if it comes down to that.

I'm going to be including OpenSSL, thankfully 1.1.1h fixes most issues. I'll probably update the specs, idb and build soonish. I'm just kinda waiting for more ideas to pop in on this. But once it is ready, irixce.org proper will launch.

Does the new OpenSSL give up a proper PRNG?

RE: IRIXCE - Patchset 1 RFC
Howdy folks,

Been a while since I updated on this. It's not been my highest priority, due to a variety of issues, but I am still working on it.

A late addition:

new terminfos for xterm. You see, on other OSes xterm has 256 color support. I am gonna add as a postinstall command to tic an included terminfo so you all can use these over SSH for getting 256-color. solidcore suggested this while we were doing other stuff under IRIX, so thanks to him for pointing it out.

Ok, dependency bump done! I have successfully updated the major libs that needed updating and also pigz. That means this is officially being worked on again.

I have a lot of shit to clear out before real testing and traction start, but rest assured guys:

it's coming. Hold onto your butts.

RE: IRIXCE - Patchset 1 RFC
Few things went off the rails. Something broke with pigz and I don't recall what, so for this release it's been removed. I'm sorry, but we'll figure it out some other time. I don't know how it worked, since it wants va_copy, and I guess I just kinda breezed through it previously and didn't notate it!

Anyways, MIPSIV IRIX64 6.5.22 build is proceeding as we speak. That will be my final test to catch things before I proceed with the first patchups on live systems. If nothing breaks, we get a release. If not, I'll share what went wrong. That will be patchset 1's primary release, with the goal being community feedback. In the future, I do plan to get MIPS III builds out at the same time, as well as 6.5.30 builds. I don't envision that incompatibilities will be introduced, mind you, that would break 6.5.22 -> 6.5.30, I'm just not quite ready to hamper myself with more than one release.

From there, I'll be continuing with new-eoe, but patchset 2 will be delayed for at least 90 days to give me a chance to update other projects I have waiting in the wings.

Edit: Just to clarify, basically all packages have been built and given a cursory test either using their inbuilt testsuites or simple compiled applications. Now, I basically double check the idb files, run gendist over the files collected, and build a MIPSIV system with the patches, double checking if they work. After I do a cursory check of file versions and conflicts, then release occurs.
