SGI O2, power up - Problems
I need some help with one of my O2, I connected, mouse and keyboard + VGA Monitor to it, as soon as I plug the power cord into it starts without pressing a button, but the Status LED shows red and no screen  on the monitor. I also connected a serial Cable for console output to port 1 but I‘m not sure if I set it up correctly on my MacBook, I used the same setup as in my onyx2 for console output, but it keeps fully empty. I‘m thankful for any advice ;-)

RE: SGI O2, power up - Problems
I was never successful using the native applications on the Mac console apps (console or whatever open source) using USB serial adapters.
I ended up surrendering to a Windows VM (yes...) with putty, and assigning the USB serial adapter to it.

It doesn't work on my personal Mac Pro with Mojave, and it doesn't work with my MacBook with whichever is the newest version (11.something)

Hope it helps.

You can check below flowchart to see where the possible cause could be:

If the LED is red you might need to reseat your CPU.

Btw your text is black and hard to read.

Serial tools works perfectly on my Mac Pro 2013 with a serial adapter.

Here are my USB adaptor's details:

TThank I will try to refit the CPU and Ram, but why does the o2 powers up right away by connecting the power cord to electricity without pressing the power button ?

There's a jumper next to the Dallas RTC chip. If this jumper is set, the O2 will power on if the PSU is connected to an outlet. You can remove this jumper and try turning it on with the power button. However if the Dallas RTC chip's battery is depleted, it might not turn on.

RE: SGI O2, power up - Problems
Well, I tried to replace Ram no effect, I don’t know if it means reseating the CPU board or the CPU itself ? Reseating the CPU board no effect, and I also tried to set or remove the jumper on the Dallas Chip with no effect, either I set it or also removed, as soon as the power cord is plugged it starts right away...

I just double checked and there is no output on the serial outputs, tested slot 1 and 2, btw there is also no power up sound as the o2 regular does..

RE: SGI O2, power up - Problems
These are the steps to try as I understand them:

0. NEVER remove the motherboard from the machine if the power plug is still connected
1, Unplug the machine
2. Pull the motherboard tray out
3. Remove the plastic jumper from the two pins
4. Put back the motherboard into the machine
5. Plug the power power cord
6. Press the power button.

If the O2 still auto boots after step 5, then I'm not sure what's going on. Re-seating the CPU board should be enough (not the CPU itself).
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can help you.

RE: SGI O2, power up - Problems
well as I told before workstation is auto power on with or without jumper set, CPU Modul reseated. Could it be simply the Power supply itself that causes this issue, or simply not delivering correct power to the Board ?

when I first got my working o2 it autopowered everytime I plugged it in. once I was able to get a null serial cable for usb I figured out it was working (has to be regular to null or you have to get an adapter) so after it fully booted and I got video output with a special adapter I was able to power it down properly. never auto started again UNLLLLLLLLLLLEEESSS you pull the power cord when its on it will autostart when plugged in until you shut it down properly again. also what is up with that red o2 in your picture did you paint that? I have 2 that were smashed up in shipping and after some HEAVY gluing sanding and epoxy casting I painted one green and one white. But that red one seems to have factory text mask
