RE: SGI O2, power up - Problems
Well my serial to USB cable works perfect with my Onyx2 so I guess it should do so with the O2, what adapter did you use for the VGA ?

Yes it’s a case Mode O2

Yea it was an old Logo Case, it was very scratchy and scuffed all over the case, I cleaned and filled the Cube Logo hole, did some sanding and repainted it fully. I want to make this case pretty again and I really like it as it is now ;-)

I build in some PC Hardware with an Gforce 980GFx to run the Oculus Rift for my kids ;-)

So for the O2 Problem I‘ll try to replace the CPU unit with another one and have a try, btw I read something about upgrading a R5K to an 10K, I‘m not sure but I have this CPU laying around may somebody can spot it if it’s an O2 R10K cpu ?

If the number is: 030-1529-004, then it's a R12000 400MHz (2MB L2)

RE: SGI O2, power up - Problems
The R10000 or R12000 modules are physically larger and need extra clearance, which necessitates other changes:
1. An extended connector and bracket for the processor module that is R1x000 specific
2. A wider system I/O panel and PCI tray that is R1x000 specific
3. Removal of the second hard drive and its partition so the system module can extend into the HDD bay

It can be a complex upgrade, especially on early O2s where the partition was welded in. Later on it was made removable by a single screw under the baseplate.

Someone documented it in this thread:

If that's an R12000 400Mhz I'm super jealous Biggrin.
