Very good article.

My brother sent me a link stating that Apple's new laptops have increased chip surface area for video processing. I guess they are implementing Afterburner's functions in-die.

I remain committed not to buy anything from them for various reasons, but these machines are very tempting.

Started watching the Billion Dollar Code.

Really dug the first episode... just watched the 2nd episode. Makes me really wonder if Google just directly ripped off the code.

Reading up on the real case it sounds like they had the lamest excuse for copyright in that the term "terra vision" was used before the Art+Com used it as a term
but that doesn't have anything to do with the algorithm in question. I know that the example of the iPad being in Star Trek was also used as an example that Star Trek
couldn't copyright all touchscreen devices. Still, seems like Google might just have used the old too many lawyers and money to defeat them instead of actual justice taking place.

I enjoyed the series, in fact watched it twice.lol. One thing that didn’t look right was the timeline and hardware used. All this terravision development was happening in 1995/96 when google took another 10 years to develope google earth. That’s fine, what didn’t look right was seeing a teal Indigo2 connected to flat panel monitors (2nd episode I think). Specifically I saw 1600sw connected to an indigo2 teal. I didn’t know that was possible due to the resolution restrictions. I saw a range of Indy’s indigo2 teals, and impact models sporting crt and flat panel monitors.

I also was wondering how students that don’t have 2cents to their name can get their hands on an Indy to perform the nightclub graphic displays as he is DJ ing.

Overall, IMO they did a fantastic job showcasing the SGI machines and demos & performance unlike any their movies and how they tapped into the exclusivenesses of the brand, comparing the name to rockstar status.

While I don't have all the answers. My understanding was the guy had the Indy from his old telecom job/internship? He either got it for free or stole it when he left. The same telco that he later broke back into to showcase what the telco Onyx could do to his friend.  I cannot speak to the other anachronistic elements/observations.

Definitely gotta check this out. If there are any behind-the-scenes programs, maybe they might show how they got everything ready for the sets.
