I always did that. I have removed the keyboard and set the console to "d". Still no PROM access when a graphics board is inserted, even though in and out a set to the serial console. Maybe it really is a limitation in the Indigo.
BTW: Does anybody here have the 4.0.5IOP = Indigo only patch? I am currently running 4.0.5F, which works fine, but will only recognize 128MB of RAM.
EDIT:
pretty strange results: when I pull out the graphics board, I can get access to the PROM, but the machine just refused to boot automatically. I can set AutoLoad=Yes, but when I switch the machine off and on, AutoLoad is set to No again. Curiously, with a graphics board inserted, the machine boots fine automatically, won't offer me the choice to enter the PROM, but will still boot IRIX just fine with a serial console. I am somewhat puzzled, because I thought that there was a server version of the Indigo without graphics. It may not have been popular, but I think it existed.
