Octane issues
I've got an Octane with two issues (possibly more, but these are the ones showing up now)

It's a dual R12K 300, 2048 GB, MXI/SI with a frontplane with a 1.4 Xbow.  Silver handle power supply.

Issue 1: during ide testing, the system reports "No graphics boards detected".  The system, boots normally and has a graphic desktop.

Issue 2: the system, when shutdown, boots again immediately.  Can't switch it off with the button.  I've noticed this with an earlier revision frontplane too in the same system.

Has anyone encountered something like this?

RE: Octane issues
The latter issue, I had in one case. It's usually an early sign of PSU failure, OR corrupt NVRAM.

RE: Octane issues
It's probably the power supply. The machine is on its third now. At least a Fuel can be kept going longer term with an ATX adapter.

I pulled 3 other machines out of storage (Indy, Indigo1 and Indigo2). All had the usual PS issues.

I'm puzzled by the graphics board issue, though.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, unfortunately ATX PSUs simply won't work for anything that's not a fuel, realistically, due to the foreign voltages and stuff. You have lots of negative polarity voltages and stuff on these boxes. I don't know about the first issue, which is why I with-held judgment

RE: Octane issues
I'm familiar with resetting the NVRAM on an Altix, but is it just "flash -v" for an Octane or am I missing something?

RE: Octane issues
No, there's different PROM and NVRAM commands. You can try "resetenv" from the PROM command monitor. IIRC, there's a setting that turns an Octane on as soon as power is applied.

Looks like it is the power supply. I'll see if Mashek has another Cherokee.

Thanks for the help.

I'm willing to buy the "going bad" Octane Cherokee PSU from you. PM me if interested, I'm like the dead PSU buyer around these parts :-)

I'm likely to need to keep it just in case whatever I replace it with fails.  I do have a completely non-functioning Lucent and Cherokee (missing the handle) PS though.   Do you rebuild them?
