This is a thread for anyone here, who's got a Youtube channel to discus the future goals for their channel, as well as any other topics concerning Youtube and their SGI machines.

The first video that I posted to YouTube was a video simply showing the Tezro running multiple applications at once, which I recorded using my iPhone. It was at this point that I realised that I could create content to promote these machines by making them more visible to the public, thereby helping to grow our community in my own way!

I've been making videos for about 2 years now and I think that it's about time I stepped it up a notch!!!

Because of the low quality Go-Pro camera I've been using, my video and sound quality has been poor to reasonable at best, and I don't believe that I've been able to do these machines true justice up to this point.

Hence I aim to get a proper camera, hopefully some time next year, so that I can start to shoot at the correct level of detail!!!

I'm not one to compromise, so I'm not going to settle for a crappy camera!!! So I'll have to juggle this purchase with the rest of the projects I have lined up!

I've become rather reluctant to shoot new content until I have this sorted out!!!

The Camera that I'm going to get is the Canon EOS C100 MKII. 



It is probably one of the best cameras you're going to get that shoots at 1920x1080. It's a full format camera the features a CMOS sensor. The theory goes that if you want less noise in your image, then the larger the individual cells which comprise the sensor are, the better! Yes there is a Canon EOS C300 MKIII available that shoots in 4K, but it costs 3 times the price and the censor's the same size, being 35mm. I would rather have a very good quality 1920x1080 image, and I really don't think that you need to shoot in a higher resolution for YouTube at this point.



Once I have proper gear, I aim to make a new set of video's showing full hardware overviews of all of the machines in my inventory, as well as them in operation, at a quality level which does them the justice they deserve!

Actually don't let this go to your head, but I've watched your videos and used them as an inspiration to pick me up. Everyone goes through trials in their life and for the last 4 years or so I've been through a bit of a dip. I re-discovered SGI through YT and your videos played a large part in that discovery and the road to my recovery. I was never a graphics guy nor even a good programmer (I try) but I was a UNIX admin managing IRIX, Solaris and S-cough-O! Anyway, YT has a lot of content, some better than others. I've spent more time than would be healthy to find a subject. I'm a network guy so until now I've been doing ad-hoc crappy and scrappy things. YT really needs thought and deliberation to do properly.

So I plan and try then breathe deeply and stick my toe in. I love this thread! I love that you wrote this man. If you are up for collab on anything give me a shout. I'd be happy to discuss potential ideas or even if you would like to start an IN open-conference call? I'm no expert man but I can tell a yarn if I have a pint in my hand.

Appreciation from me as well. I've used your videos as reference, most recently how to set up NFS. As a newbie to the community, this kind of content is very welcome. I have no complaints about the quality .

Do you only film directly with a camera or do you also use a capturing device? I'm also trying to setup a workflow for direct video capture from my O2, with the purpose to record and stream video. My basic setup is SGI O2 -> VGA Y splitter -> VGA1-> CRT monitor, VGA2->VGA to hdmi adapter -> hdmi to usb capture card -> Windows ITX PC.
The whole setup cost me about 35 euro (y splitter, converter and capture card) and to my surprise it actually works , well kinda:

As you can see the video is quite green, so I guess the capture card doesn't understand the sync on green signal.
If anyone knows of an affordable alternative that works with SOG please let me know.

If you're using an HDMI adapter somewhere in the mix then that's the cause not the video capture device. HDMI is a digital not analog signal.

Once it switches over to digital the sync signal is the same as any other HDMI signal.

Unless your capture card is VGA which I don't think it is based on what you said.

Hmm, good point. So I would need to convert the SOG VGA signal to a regular VGA singal first? If so, is there an easy device to do so?

Or you just need a converter that is tolerant of sync on Green.

In my experience your mileage may vary, I've had converters that work for my systems but also not for others.

I don’t use a capture card at this point, and absolutely need to in the future, I plan on slotting one into the new Mac Pro, when I eventually get one.

The new camera’s much higher on the list of priorities though!

As you can see, I going to be needing quite a few things here, so this will take some time!

I've ordered some more cheap VGA to HDMI converters to test. I'll post here if I have success with any of them.
