Question  VW 320 POST loop
Hi
I changed the motherboard of my non working VW 320 and put a brand new battery in it and at boot I have a kind of loop on blue screen POST telling me that date is out of range.
Keyboard is not responding ( I am using and Apple USB keyboard)
So how can I fix this ?

RE: VW 320 POST loop
I only found this: https://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?t=723072

Claims a PROM command called: recover_nvram

to reset PROM to defaults, but I assume you cannot access PROM?

RE: VW 320 POST loop
An old thread, but no good answers, so I'll offer my advice from experience in case that ancient Ars thread ever gets taken down.

I recently acquired a 320 with the same problem, but the problem only appeared under the following condition: a new coin cell battery was installed before the system clock was set.

This is to say that in my case, I could set the system clock in ARCS after powering on the machine without a battery installed. Shutting down the machine and leaving it connected to wall power would preserve the time. At this point I installed the coin cell battery and had a successful starup test. Once my 320 was working to my satisfaction, I disabled the startup tests Smile

Hope your case is as simple as mine was.

RE: VW 320 POST loop
May be unrelated, but FYI...
My C8000 does not detect my Apple USB keyboard and boots to serial console, but it detects my Model M DIN-toPS2-toUSB and the HP keyboard that came with it.

The Apple USB keyboard works with every other computer I own otherwise.

Apple USB keyboards aren't compatible with earlier USB standards and sometimes don't work on other vintage boxes, i.e. my Tezro

You should get a more universal USB keyboard like a Pluggable Performance with Cherry Blues

Technical problems should be sent my way.

I've often used an Apple G4 usb keyboard with my 320 and it works perfectly!

RE: VW 320 POST loop
Just mentioning because another day I was discussing with a commenter on youtube and he was not getting the local console up on his C8000 and, after switching keyboards, it worked.

I try never to assume that something is common knowledge.

I even keep an old Logitech serial mouse around just in case.

Mine is the Logitech M-M34.
I got it because I liked the software - it allowed you to assign tasks to pushing both buttons at the same time.
It replaced an IBM PS2 mouse.
I have it since 1997 but hardly ever use it these days.

When I passed the entrance exams to the military school, my father got me this mouse + 8MB of RAM. XD
