Yeah that's not on the list, the AHA-2940UW works though: https://wiki.preterhuman.net/SCSI

Hi SGI'ers,

I know this is not PCI, but here is picture of Opcode Translator Pro with cabling for connecting to Octane serial DB9 for MIDI keyboard use with Synthesiser application on IRIX:

I also found this on the Web Archive: http://web.archive.org/web/1998021206384...nspro.html

And added notes on SGI MIDI connectivity to my blog.

If anyone has pdf of manual then please post link, as the only one I found points to a dead site...

Cheers from Oz,

John Hartley

Only thing I found quickly was how to setup this device under an old OMS studio for Mac. It at least talks about hookups and assignments?

http://akarchive.digidesign.com/support/...torial.pdf

Hope that’s helpful.

Hi Weblacky,

indeed it is thanks for posting ink.

I also "re-found" this gem: https://www.cc.gatech.edu/fce/midi/midi_serial.html

I am sure this is the article I used as guidance 20 years or so ago when I first got the Opcode and wired it up to the Octane.

Cheers from Oz,

John.

Even if it does, why would anyone want to use it at that resolution? Unless, I suppose, unless you could actually get Commander Keen running on an Octane with it... 🥰

No, just find it bizarre how actually the voodoo 2 works on IRIX ?, it's only a 3d card and usually, it does GLIDE don't sound at all like something that can work on an SGI.

There's been a Voodoo Glide driver in Mesa for at least 25 years, but I don't have any idea if Mesa compiles on IRIX, I've certainly never tried it. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? 😝

I'd be very surprised if it did work.  My guess (but it's just a guess!) is that the Voodoo card worked under Linux on an Octane, when the native graphics were unsupported.
