Looks like you copied the CD to a hard disk, but the installation program is looking for it on the CD ...

It's the .tar download.

I initially tried to launch it from the /CDROM folder with the same result.

The install program does allow you to set the path to where the install files sit, as well as the destination install folder!

For some reason, I can't get this .iso download written to CD in a format that is readable by my Tezro or alphastation, running windows NT4, even though I'm able to write all of my other IRIX.iso files to CD using my Mac Pro!

Does your tez have a cd/dvd burner ? I had good luck using cdrecord or cdrtools (it changed names at some point, can't remember which is the current one.)  Figuring out the initial command was a bit of a bitch, there's a gazillion options, but after that it was a picnic. Used to do that frequently on the Fool.

I've got a couple of Yamaha adapters that make ide burners think they are scsi, works good. What I like about it is, it does exactly what you say, nothing is obfuscated behind some barrier of "help-you" hidden configuration choices.

Meanwhile, what happens if you just extract the SGI.Z file and see what's inside ? It might just be a directory structure, doesn't need an install program anyhow. Or something you can easily figure out by looking at the install script ...

It worked when I did it the way you recommended, but it complained about the license and exited!

Like with @pcar, I think the problem exists because I have a FLEXLM daemon running, due to all the other software I have installed on the system.

I'm sure someone with hex editor skills could find and crack the license check. As long as you share that privately I don't care!

It's not an ISO, but a BIN file. You need to run bin2cue on it. Both a macOS and recent Windows system should be able to mount the iso after that.

I haven't looked into the licensing. Is it FLEXlm based?

I was able to get it installed by extracting SGI.X on my mac, tarring it up and sending it to the Tezro over the NFS. (there is a procedure that needs to be followed to then install it and link it's executable to a linked file in the bin directory)

It is FLEXlm based, so even if you install it in a demo mode, it detects the FLEXlm daemon running and this causes problems.

According to the icon and filename (SGI.Z) it's an older zipfile, you can extract those by simply double-clicking the icon in Irix ....

Cool, I wasn’t familiar with a .Z file, so I just happened to try and unzip it on the Mac first, and it happened to work.
