Wow, it actually looks better than the official renderings from the CDC. Good work!

@Lady Serena Kitty, Thanks!

This video shows the scene setup that I used to Render "THE VIRUS" in Maya 6.5, using the mental ray renderer on a Silicon Graphics Tezro equipped with 4 Mips R16K's@1GHz and 6GB of RAM.

Irinikus, I know I've asked you this before, but this time I'll remember your answer, I promise! Tongue What do you use to take movies of what's happening on your Tezro? Angel

For the moment I'm just using a GoPro! (It is rather barbaric, I know!!! Wink )

I'll still research a video capture device that I can use with my current Mac Pro, or I may fit a video capture card to the new Mac Pro, when I hopefully get one sometime next year.

The Tezro's DVI output should make proper video capture easy to accomplish, especially with the DCD fitted, as it never reverts to SOG, as the standard DVI output on the machine seems to do, as the OS boots.

Cuz I was gonna say you should be able to use the regular IRIX mediarecorder for that as well:

I often use IRIX mediarecorder to capture screenshots, but I haven't found it to work well when it comes to video capture.

Most video capture devices are dongles, I really don't want more dongles lying around, so I will wait until I get the new Mac, as it has plenty of expansion slots. (A good reason to get it, as it will enable me to up my game!)

Thanks for the advice though! Smile

Disclaimer : never tried this 'cuz I was a MPlayer kinda guy, but I know that VLC will record screen activities and I think there was an Irix port ? Might be fun to try it, even if it doesn't work well. Doing every part of a process on the SGI is part of the fun Smile

Another kinda fun thing to mess with is the firewire video input ... I got a webcam sort-of working and neko got even farther, making it display in a window ... might be a fun project to take that farther down the road. I think there's at least one guy hereabouts who could help with the firewire bits, he's messed with 1394 a little.

It sure would be awesome to do productions from beginning to end on SGI machines.

I would love to edit my videos in Flame as well, but loads of resource are needed for this, and I don't want to use my current Tezro for this purpose, as it's setup just the way I want it. Smile

Maybe someday I'll get my hands on a complete, dedicated Flame setup, but these cost a fortune and I'm running many projects at the moment!

I have to start crossing them off one by one, and try not to add any more to the list in the meantime (It's hard!), and they all require large amounts of money to complete! :(

It would be great to see more people working on projects on their SGI's! I really would encourage it, as these machines were creators tools back in the day!
