I recently purchased an INOGENI VGA2USB3 capture device to use with my SGI Indy.  Today, a support tech at INOGENI remoted into my laptop and got the VGA2USB3 device to produce an image from the Indy.  It works, it isn't perfect but it works.  I have a custom firmware image for anyone who buys this device, but there's just 1 catch: it only works at 1024x768.  While that's not absurdly large, it should be good enough for streaming or recording.

It's great to hear about another capture device that works, and good on them for supporting you like that. However, what is up with the vertical lines? I have noticed a little bit of that on my Indy, but nowhere near to the same degree (I don't see it at all on my Indigo2). I wonder if it's an issue with the sync pulses not being filtered or something.

Like I said, it isn't perfect. Might be able to run it through a post-processing filter in VLC or OBS to remove those. The guy at INOGENI said this was a difficult task since the H-sync and V-sync pulses are completely absent from the Indy. It's also possible he didn't fully account for SoG when he was building the custom firmware. The vertical lines don't bother me that much, and it's really only for streaming/recording. For daily use, I'd still use my Toshiba TV.

Yours is cleaner, sure, but your aspect ratio is way off.  The INOGENI tech did have it very clean with no vertical lines at one point, but again the aspect ratio was way off.  His main points were - getting the image centered, keeping the correct aspect ratio, and keeping the colors accurate.

Yeah, there are some settings I can mess with to improve that a bit but they break capture from the O2 so I leave them off normally. In any case, the aspect ratio is correct once I get to the dekstop. This is another issue I don't have with my I2.

I was thinking that we should have a list of known-working capture cards. Would you mind if I added this one to my original post on the topic, and mentioned that you could be contacted for the firmware?

Would you mind telling me what graphics board your Indy has, and whether you have noticed any other quirks? Also, if you ever have cause to open it in the future I'd appreciate it if you could tell me what ADC chip they use.

Not sure, I think I saw ADC7102. You could ask INOGENI support. My graphics board is the 24-bit XL.
