Raion => no the link is for a PROM. But again, the result is not satisfying at all.
I've changed the Indy logo by the Famicom one...

For weblacky => try this link out (it's a PROM file as well) : INDY Prom BladeRunner
It does not sound too bad. I've changed the logo as well:

Sorry to bump this dormant thread but...

Hi Jan-Jaap, would you happen to know what patch that is? I get msgs about failing textport init on my serial diagnostics terminal every time I boot and shut down.

Btw, I can confirm the Crimson RE splash screen looks spot on!

Today was one of those increasingly rare and miraculous days when the RE in the Crimson actually didn't act up!

Nice work, Ty -- many thanks!

Hi Roland, it's patch 1550:

Code:
1.  Patch_SG0001550_Release_Note

This release note describes patch SG0001550 to IRIX 6.2.

      1.1  Supported_Hardware_Platforms

This patch contains bug fixes for Crimson Reality Engine
(IP17 processor with Reality Engine graphics).  The software
cannot be installed on other configurations.

      1.2  Bugs_Fixed_by_Patch_SG0001550

This patch contains fixes for the following bugs in IRIX
      6.2.

o On IRIX 6.2, Crimson Reality Engine was shipped with a
version of graphics prom microcode that didn't work,
            this patch fixes the problem.

This patch is part of the Required/Recommended set for Crimson running IRIX 6.2, which you can find here: https://ftp.jurassic.nl/pub/irix/patches..._required/

I would apply the 6.2 POSIX set as well. Crimson was never Y2K certified but it doesn't hurt to cherry pick some patches from the two other 6.2 Y2K patch sets (there's one for workstations, and one for big iron)

RE: Boot screens reverse engineered for most SGI systems
Hi JJ,

many thanks for that info! Yeah, it is indeed patch 1550 according to the doc, which I probably missed. I'm pretty sure I applied the POSIX patches, tho.

Crimson and Power Series are both all over the place after Y2K, always whining about a "preposterous time" when booting. So I had to bodge an xntp client for both, which however takes ages to sync, at least under 6.2 on the Crimson. I'm curious about those Y2K patches tho; will have to check what they actually do.

I may have to develop a routine for simply powering up the RE more often, as I expect it's a combination of that and reseating the PGAs and the Flash DIP on the GE8 (maybe the sockets are getting flaky too). In any case, the RE is ridiculously finicky and unruly, as was the RE2 in our Onyx at Fraunhofer back in the day. VGX is just rock solid in comparison.

Best regards and have a good week,
