So, I've just got my o2 the Analog Video Module. Problem is, I use SETENV -P from the PROM to set videotiming, videoinput, videooutput, and videogenlock to what seems like it should be a valid configuration for my setup per the higherintellect writeup and the O2Video man page but I only receive videostatus=av_error in response.

EDIT: So, I popped the cover off my existing audio input module for some comparisons...and I apparently was sold a audio module without the cover for the composite and S-video inputs, which are both populated on the audio only board for some reason. Both 1145-001 Rev. D, same spots on the board populated with the same chips. Why does the audio module have the composite inputs populated??

Just FYI, I've heard that opening up an audio-only board to find an A/V board underneath is quite normal. Apparently the audio-only option was more popular than SGI expected, so they took existing A/V boards and gimped them.

My O2 is equipped with a fully opulated A/V board, it looks like this :



Your board has the A/V connectors but the circuitry to use them is missing.

Hmm, now that I look at it more closely, I note that even the board with exposed A/V connectors doesn't have an O2 Cam connector (hence corroborating that it is an A board with the casing of an AV1 board).

The answer to your original question is probably that it was cheaper to buy and install one part on all boards, then populate a particular board with required chips at the last minute based on demand. Not having two different bases floating around really streamlines supply chains.
