Problems installing and running nekoware

Problems installing and running nekoware
Today I happened to see this Image on Silicon Image:

And I noticed a few things that I like: firstly aterm (running in a translucent mode), XMMS and GImageView.

So I installed aterm and this is what I got: It runs, but it's not translucent! (How do I make it translucent?)

Secondly, if you look in aterm, you will see the error that I get when trying to run XMMS! (It's looking for libintl.so.4!)

Where on earth do I find libintl.so.4????????

I've also searched nekoware for GImageView and can't seem to find it anywhere!!!

Where do I find GImageView????????

libintl is part of gettext from what I can see.

GImageView can be found here: http://nekofiles.irixnet.org/nekoware/contrib/semi-fly/ it's gvimg in the list.

Edit: For aterm, I think you need to launch it using the switch -tr, so "aterm -tr" - but I haven't tested this, just found it by googling for aterm info.

I have XMMS running on my Octane, will try and see what I did to install it tomorrow. I used it for streaming Heart80's Smile

I do like aterm...Any way of setting as the default terminal?

I really have to get a proper backdrop sorted for my 1920x1200 display, it looks cruddy with the standard ones.

Looking at the image, are there any IRC Irix channels about?

No longer active. Please do not contact me.

Thanks for the reply!

gettext is installed on the system, so I don't know why libintl.so.4 isn't there. (libintnl.so, libintnl.so.9 and libintnl.so9.5 are present, but not libintnl.so.4)

When I try to install GImageView, I get the following conflicts with an "fw" prefix that cannot be satisfied with the files I have at my disposal:

"aterm -tr" does work, but aterm doesn't maintain it's transparency.

Thanks, I managed to get some of it down, but it appears that CD-4 is missing and I still need fw_libpang.sw.lib and fw_libz.sw.lib!

RE: Problems installing and running nekoware
The .4 is a version, essentially the XMMS build was linked against a specific (and old) version of gettext. You could try symlinking libintl.so.4 to one of your current files - that can work (sometimes).

RE: Problems installing and running nekoware
Hi there,

Here is the command to make aterm "translucent" and look similar to what is shown on the desktop example:
>>aterm -tr -sh 50 -fg white

Should you still struggle with fw_libpng.sw.lib and fw_libz.sw.lib, please PM me. I do have these distributions on my O2 but I would need to power it up.

Thanks very much! It worked! Smile

Regarding the SGI freeware disks, I'd really appreciate it if someone could make the ISO's available!

I'm currently downloading 6 SGI freeware CD ISO's from archive.org!

RE: Problems installing and running nekoware
We don't host IRIX disk images (they're not ISOs generally, IRIX has very limited support for UDF, Joliet/Rockridge and ISO-9660 filesystems) but that's the last of the freeware that was hosted on the SGI.com mirror. Not sure what happened, but if someone has the tardist files I can complete it.
