VNC and OpenGL applications
Hi everyone,
My first post here. Love the forum! Got my Octane up and running earlier this year after 15 years in storage, big thanks to the wonderful Ian Mapleson. I also have an Indy and Indigo2 from many years back. And an incoming Onyx2 from Ian.
I have set up a VNC connection so that I can access my Octane remotely. VNC works fine for non-OpenGL applications, but I was wondering if it is possible to get applications like Maya and Quake to work with VNC?
I am running VNC via this command added to /var/X11/xdm/Xservers:
:5 secure /usr/nekoware/bin/Xvnc :5 -depth 24 -geometry 1600x1200 -rfbwait 120000 -rfbauth /usr/people/bard/.vnc/passwd -rfbport 5905 -alwaysshared
I get the login screen and I can access my desktop as usual, but launching an application that uses OpenGL gives the following error: Xlib: extension "XInputExtension" missing on display «:5:0».
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Bård

RE: VNC and OpenGL applications
Thanks for the info Eve! That explains a lot. I was able to get Maya running with remote desktop from Linux, but OGL didn't work well. Luckily I have a few other SGI's I can use to get it working. (Trying to access my SGI at the office from home)
Best,
Bård
