Custom desktop backgrounds on Extreme Graphics?

Custom desktop backgrounds on Extreme Graphics?
Im having a bit of a problem setting up a custom desktop background on my Indigo2 R4400, equipped with Extreme Graphics and running IRIX 6.5.11F!

Before I go ahead and install 6.5.22 on the machine this evening, in an effort to solve this problem, is this graphics hardware capable of running a custom desktop background?

I have managed to setup a custom desktop background on my Indy R4400, equipped with XZ graphics, so surely Xtreme Graphics on the Indigo2 should be able to do it?

Any help with this would be much appreciated!

I'm going ahead with the IRIX 6.5.22 installation anyway, as it's a newer version, and the latest version that will run on this machine.

The interesting thing here is that the "install prereqs" command actually worked here: (Its not very often that I've seen this!)

And we're done with the IRIX install:

I will play around with it a bit later!

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. However do note that IRIX versions earlier than 6.5.22 cannot use JPG etc. for backgrounds. You'd have to convert them to RGB format (I think - I stand to be corrected on this).

I got it to work with the IRIX install, and am currently installing FireFox3 over a NFS that I've setup with my Tezro:

Nekoware requires MIPS4 CPUs (R5k/R10k and above). Your CPU is MIPS3 so won't work. There is a branch of MIPS3 Nekoware, but Firefox 3 isn't there. Probably the best browser in that collection is SeaMonkey.

I noticed!!! These R4000's are rather depressing machines, to be honest!!! :(

RE: Custom desktop backgrounds on Extreme Graphics?
After allot of messing around today, I got the custom desktop background setup on my Indigo2 R4400 with Extreme graphics, and took these screenshots:

This machine is uncomfortably slow to use though! :(
