After 2 years by trying to understand IRIX, I decided to try to make a clean install of IRIX 6.5.30on my Octane.
At first, I've tried with the classical CDROM process. "boot -f dksc(X,Y,8)sash64 dksc(X,Y,7)stand/fx.64 --x" worked great for "fx" but installation from CDROM always freezed. :s
So, I keep the faith and I the VAGRANT process, as it is described here :
https://wiki.irixnet.org/network_install_vagrant
And WOW ! It's SO EASY and QUICK, it's so perfect for an IRIX beginner like me. The guy or the team that made this possible is/are genious !
If it's possible, I would like to ask IrixNetwork's admin to append some notes in this tutorial :
1- Use Virtual Box up to v6.0.x (
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Download_Old_Builds) ; actually, v6.1.x doesn't works with VAGRANT.
2- Perhaps, it's easy to undertsand for an advanced user but specified the "hostip" have to be different than the ip of the workstation is running VAGRANT should be good.
3- For "fx> exercise/sequential", just to understand how long it is : it takes about 35 minutes for 10% on a 73Go HDD (Octane 1x400Mhz / 2Go Ram - don't know if it's important).
Thanks again GENIOUS, for this awesome share !!!
