Octane XIO Options w/VPro Graphics

Octane XIO Options w/VPro Graphics
From: HERE

1. Origin2k/Onyx2 Digital Video Option (DIVO) - ( p/n 030-1305-00x or 030-1046-00x; requires Octane-style XIO latch )
2. The Octane Compression Option was intended for use with MGRAS graphics. This article explains how it can be made to work with VPro/Odyssey graphics (though there have been issues reported with later revision V12s).

Of course the neko pages are MIA -- anyone know what's required to get this going, or any additional info for XIO/Octane video options?  How can one connect an O2 cam to an Octane without a MGRAS board-set?

Indigo2 IMPACT  : R10K-195MHz, 1GB RAM, 146GB 15K, CD-ROM, AudioDAT, MaxImpact w/ TRAM.  IRIX 6.5.22

I don't think you can. There's only one Octane video board with an O2 cam connector and that's the "Personal Video Option". I have one of those in my Octane MXE and it interfaces directly with the graphics board. The reason that something like DIVO works (eventually after changing some locking hardware) is that is interacts with main memory, not the graphics board.

The video options for the Octane2 / VPro is the DM2 board but these are for the broadcast crowd. If you don't have a cam with an SDI interface you're out of luck.

A 1394 (FireWire) webcam might work with a DM10 or compatible card, e.g. the "red" Adaptec. Not sure.

I struggle with the red adaptec still.  There’s a few posts here about my continual, masochistic desire to probe the FireWire bus...

If one were to install an ESI board or similar into the XIO carrier to connect the Personal Video option ?  Would one be able to get the video up on the VPro head, or would you need to connect to the ESI?  (The Video option can’t exist alone, can it?)

When jan-jaap said the PVO "interfaces directly with the graphics board" he means through three flat cables that connect the video board to the graphics board.  It is a direct physical connection between the two.  You absolutely cannot use the PVO to display on a VPro monitor nor can you use it alone.

(For what it's worth, look at the photo of an SSE board at http://archive.irixnet.org/sgistuff/hard...e-1802.jpg.  On the right hand side of the board, near the bottom of the photo, just above the I/O shield, and right of the four square black chips, you will see three very fine-pitch connectors neatly lined up in a row.  Those are for the ribbon cables to the PVO board.)

Yeah, I figured as much.  Like the Impact video options on the Indigo2.

Didn’t know what exactly gets passed through the XIO bus though, so had to ask.  😅
