SCSI SSD?

SCSI SSD?
Was wandering around the internet chasing butterflies and I came across this company...

http://www.hsc-us.com/products/scsi/3.5-...-scsi.html

No prices, looks like they are aimed industrial and probably military orders. Still looks kind of cool they have 50pin for the INDY and INDIGO and 80pin for the others. Has anyone heard of them?

Here's one 2nd hand for a thousand bucks: https://www.ebay.com/itm/HAGIWARA-3-5-50...2433983187

Seller has some more, might even be the actual company.

Hmm.. so yeah we're not talking affordable. Smile It's good to be a niche market. It is the makers eBay account and looks like they sold 1 a year ago. It's a nice looking unit for sure but at that price I'll pass.

Hi SGI'ers,

that looks suspiciously like an ACARD SCSI/SATA SSD adaptor (or maybe is is even older is and SCSI / PATA.

I have a number of these inside SGI Octane, O350 and old Macs.

They used to cost around $300 and then the prices went absurd.

At the current prices the adaptor is worth more that then computer ;

Cheers from Oz,

RE: SCSI SSD?
Ya same here,
They used to be like $140-$250 on eBay back in 2010 (during the depth of the last recession). I managed to snag a couple of them (though I updated the firmware back then successfully, but the newest firmware refuses to apply no matter what I try...I’ve given up on that).

But they work very well if the drive is healthy, when the drive has issues, they check out and act dead).

I’d recommend keeping them on your save watch list on eBay and just waiting. Likely you’ll see another purge of decently priced converters.

Like all SGI stuffs, it’s a waiting game...then spring into action when something appears.

RE: SCSI SSD?
I was wondering what the bridge card was really. If it is a ACARD tucked inside that 3.5 casing that would be disappointing. I was hoping someone has fabricated a new board to handle this.

One of us electronic nerd heads with enough spare time, should really invent a cheaper open source hardware equivalent. Hopefully I get a new contract soon and can afford to buy these silly expensive SCSI->SSD adapters.
