Indigo2 MAX IMPACT not seeing drives?

Indigo2 MAX IMPACT not seeing drives?
I received my Indigo2 MAX IMPACT R10000 system today and wanted to install IRIX on it, but it doesn't appear to detect the drives that I have installed, including the CD-ROM, which does work in my Indigo2 R4000.

Here's a pic of the systems hinv, note that there are no SCSI controllers or drives present?

Here's the systems printenv:

Here's My Indigo2 R4000's printenv: (note the extra lines) I added these lines to the environmental settings on the R10000 and it still didn't detect the drives!

This is what I get when I try to install system software: (the CD-ROM isn't available)

Here's the system's splash screen:

Does this mean that the SCSI controller is dead?

Any help with this would be much appreciated!

RE: Indigo2 MAX IMPACT not seeing drives?
You tried to put a known-good CD-ROM and hard disk in the system (e.g. they are detected by the other Indigo2)?

Make sure that the SCSI chain is properly terminated (the tray above the CPU must be in place, and the flatcable attached). There are two SCSI controllers in an Indigo2: one for internal, one for external devices. If the same devices work in the other system, and eventually in an external enclosure attached to the SCSI connector on the back of the system, then I'd suspect the internal SCSI controller.

I unfortunately don’t have any external SCSI device to connect to the machine to test the external SCSI controller.

Today I’ll disassemble the machine completely to see if I can find anything and reseat everything.

It looks like I may need another motherboard.

At least the rest of the system works!

Double check the scsi flex cable where it mates to the mainboard, next to the CPU. Maybe it's not properly connected? Is power being delivered to the drives?

I did this and now it works!

Im now going to continue with an IRIX install! Smile

Funny enough, it sees the CD-ROM, but won't allow me to install from it? (It sees the CD-ROM as a disk and not a CD-ROM?)

I managed to get the root password form Juergen, the person I bought it from and Im now logged in as root:

These machines produce a ridiculous amount of heat for their size!

Meet Paulo, our old yellow cat (long gone). He used to *love* basking in the hot air coning from my Indigo2 MaxImpact.
That, and making a high back on my desk, in between the keyboard and the screen to tell me he needed some petting Wink

NB: we still have cats but they're no longer allowed in my computer room.

Be carefull of the MaxImpact boardset.
It's very sensible of static electricity.
I have change all the thermal pads on mine and glued the trams's heatsink with thermal plaster.
Make a looooot of heat ...

Thanks for the heads up. The Max IMPACT board set is staying where it is for now. I will only remove it from the machine in the way distant future, when I get trams for it.
