Hi,

What we all fear as arrived to my Chyron Centaur board on my Indigo1 at the last startup, an unfortunate burning smell .... This is not definitively the most usefull addon especially without any cable or software, but it's so cool to have a fully loaded Indigo, especillay from the back ...

Here some pictures of the board for reference

I know there are electronics experts on the board, do you think this might be repairable, or she will end up only as a trophy?

Please note the 12 pin on the side compared to gerhargerhard website, maybe it was removed on later model (s/n is superior) to prevent problem with r4000 heatskink

The burnt component is a type of tantalum capacitor with an orange coating, which were commonly used in the 1980s. The challenge is that they have no markings to tell the value.
A technician equipped for SMD rework should have no trouble removing and replacing the part if its value can be deduced. The fire damage looks minimal from cursory inspection, but it could be worse underneath.

I have a Chyron Centaur board in my Indigo R3000. This is what that part should look like:
   

There are no markings on the capacitors indeed, I'm afraid

Mine is from the Marten Toonder studios, a Dutch comic book author. It was used to render episodes of the TV series of one of his characters, Olivier Bommel.

Well in this particular case, outside of PCB damage, that capacitor looks like there are lots of duplicates of the same size all over the board. So hopefully one could gently desolder one of those large capacitors and check what it is and then purchase appropriate replacements.

Luckily it's not a singleton part on its own.
