CPU dead?

CPU dead?
Thanks for all the help so far with my Octane, its still dead.

Currently to recap, I have replaced the following:

* Frontplane
* Mainboard
* Powersupply

When the machine is powered on, the power supply fan spins. The HDD cage fan ticks over, and the drives are momentarily supplied with power before going quiet again. Like they start to spin up, but then stop. I now have the correct diagnostic LED's on the front panel, but I think my light bar is broken so I Don't know if anything happens there. I measured the voltage and only seem to get 5v.

Stripped RAM down to 2 modules.

Nothing at all come out of the serial port. So I am thinking that the CPU module may be dead.

I'm a bit too poor to buy ebay cpus right now. Does anyone have any thoughts of what I could try next?

RE: CPU dead?
Hi 1byte, I'm rooting for you! Been a long time since I had an Octane but I figured I throw out a couple shots in the dark.

1) Have you tried the 'push down on the mainboard heatsink' trick? Dusty old thread here:

2) Do you have V10 or V12? if so there is lots of mentions online of xbow 1.4 being required.

Good luck!

RE: CPU dead?
Can you check the connection pins on the cpu and motherboard, sometimes one can get bent which means it won't power on.

Also, i had somd bad ram but the machine did post.

Where are you based, can you borrow a cpu module?

RE: CPU dead?
Looks like im in the same boat.
Octane red flashing light
front panel lights? x=on. 0=off
x
x 0
0 0
0 x

both fans run.
reseated boards incl cpu
Could bad ram do this? I tried all permutations no go.
pressure on black heatsink
might have to wait till I get another Octane that works and try components.
I am unable to read serial or connect monitor yet (no cable)
Any ideas?
