UltraHDMI for N64?
What are your thoughts regarding this "upgrade" for the N64?

It seems to be a very well conceived piece of kit!

Much better than the hyperkin stuff that's going around. Personally I just settle for s video on my Trinitron 32 inch

I would personally get myself a high-end video to HDMI converter and keep my machine standard, as I will be getting other consoles that will need it.

But let's see how this goes, as the Indy or the 320 may suffice!

You're still going to get noise from the composite or S-Video output. If you have SCART/Peritel capable equipment that'll get you a perfect picture though.

I'll just have to see if I can bear the noise! I suppose it's like watching an old celluloid film or listening to an LP. Back in the day the noise was present. Smile

My N64's basically in perfect condition, so I'd hate to mess around with it too much. If the noise really bothers me, I can maybe get another one and perform the mod on it, with the correct equipment of course.

I use a RGB modded N64 with the Component nintendo (its actually for the SNES) cable from Retrovision..
Its AWESOME!!! not Ultra HDMI awesome, but close .. and best of all, no delay.
Love that setup, together with a adaptor that lets you use the GC controller on the N64, its just super. Smile

RE: UltraHDMI for N64?
the problem in most generic svideo/composite upscalers to HDMI is that they interlace all 240p modes, because they don't understand them they take all input as 480i for ntsc and this looks quite nasty on moving sprites.

yes, generic upscalers are utterly rubbish.  Best way is to play (if you still have one, or can get one a nice CRT), if you cant do that, then grab a UltraHDMI kit.

It does run pretty well through the "Vino" on an Indy as well.

RE: UltraHDMI for N64?
I've got an Ultra HDMI modded N64 and I love it. I followed this project from the very beginning and I got in on the first batch. N64 looks like garbage with composite on an LCD. Don't waste your time with upscalers unless you are feeding it component or RGB.

If you can do the install yourself it's absolutely worth every penny. I still can't tell what I like better, my ultra HDMI N64 or RGB modded N64 on a PVM.
