Iris 4D? Oldest running hardware?

Iris 4D? Oldest running hardware?
I'm curious if anyone has any really old SGI hardware booting and running? Personal Iris perhaps? Old twin tower Iris 4D systems?

What's the oldest hardware anyone on here is running??

I wonder if there's any 3000 series running anywhere in the world? Surely not any 1000 or 2000 series terminals? I'd kill to see a 3130 running Alias 1.0 on MEX again!

There are a few of us floating around with Personal IRIS machines and I know someone here has an IRIS 3000. I’ll let him/her speak up if they wish.

Jan-Jaap just got a twin-tower Professional IRIS up and running recently!

Yeah, I've got a functional 4D/70 GT. I also have IP6 (4D/20 E-module) for my 4D/35.

Still cannot run the oldest IRIX (3.1 afaik) because that only works on a 4D/70 "G". My graphics are too new...

The history lives! Beautiful!

My first SGI experience was on a 3130, 8mb of RAM. Had to quit out of Alias and the MEX windowing system to launch renders on the command line (Wyse terminal) because there wasn't enough ram to run it all at once!

After that first modeling class I moved onto various 4D twin towers. Maybe the undergrads had some Personal Irises too? Can't recall. Later I was given permission to use the graduate student lab which had some more Current Indigo2s, and I think Personal Irises. Pretty sure the single frame video output set up in the grad lab was on a PI.

I won't ever get rid of my R3000 Indigo because it's the closest thing I have to those older machines I started on.

Jan-jaap? Do you own a machine corresponding to each of the icons in your sig???!!! 26??!!! I suspect so if you say you have a 4D/70 as I see it between the Tezro and... guessing... Challenge L?

I would LOVE to have a twin tower 4D machine! First time I saw those in person they were the coolest most exotic computers I could imagine.

Very pleased to hear there's some still working.

Do you have any apps/software for IRIX 3.3, Eve? I don't know what version of IRIX was on the 4D machines I used circa 1992? Used a pretty early version of Alias Power Animator. Might not have even been Power Animator, might have just been "Alias", or Alias Animator. I know the version I used on the old 3130 was just "Alias" and that was very primitive compared to later versions. Was mostly a Nurbs modeler, with a basic renderer and basic key framing support. No fx/particles, no rigging, limited shaders/materials.

I started out on the 4D/30 at our school lab in 1991, then quickly moved on to the new Indigos we got soon after that.

Still have a max-upgraded R4400@150mhz Indigo Elan I keep running for old times sake, was actually my first personal SGI too.

Hi (I cannot to return to this forum after so long time on Nekochan, so let's begin)

My oldest running SGi hardware is a 4D/20. Production date from december 88, no TFLU chassiss, so very early model. A pleasure to use with 3.3. I will repost some pictures I've made years ago with alias quickmodel
