Sun Ultra 45 Fan Noise Level

Sun Ultra 45 Fan Noise Level
I have a Sun Ultra 45 with one CPU (UltraSPARC IIIi) running at 1.6GHz. My problem is that after ~10 minutes, the three big fans start up and are incredibly loud.

Are the fans supposed to be controlled by the OS? I have OpenBSD 6.4 installed on it now. The disc drive is broken so I can't just pop a disc in and install Solaris, I can probably install Solaris on some other machine and use JumpStart or something.

But while I try that, I'm looking for some advice on whether it will help. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Has anyone had success running OpenBSD on a Sun Ultra 45 (or 25) with quiet fans? I see some videos on YouTube of an Ultra 45 booting OpenBSD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_h9zVCknYPo and there is no mention of loud fans in the description or in the video. In fact, in "reviews" of the Ultra 45 I've found, there's never any mention of loudness. I know on the servers, there is some fan control stuff in the ALOM/ILOM, but the workstations don't have that, only OBP.

Is there something I'm missing?
