RE: Problems with installing IRIX on my Octane

Where as scsi qlisp140 key 0 has three hard drives, two are seagate part numbers and one is an IBM. I wanted to confirm you’re not riding on another ID or the controllers’ native ID. But I guess I’ll simply say my piece and leave this thread as you don’t like checking the basics we ask, so you don’t want our help. It’s always the basics. But here’s my last offer of help as I close the door, best wishes.
If you are sure about the basics then I’d try two things that “in your remarks” are things I never, ever, do so try these two changes then if it’s a no go then your right, it’s broken, buy a new machine as you’ve tried everything based our input.
Suggestion 1. Never ever use ID 1 for optical, change Optical drive ID to 4 or 6. It’s convention and makes life easier.
Suggestion 2. Modern PROM firmware does not like it when you manual set the 512 jumper, I have three drives with that jumper and it screws the PROMs boot every time. Place the jumper BACK to it normal 2048 setting and see if the PROM correctly issues the 512 block command in software (at runtime) to correctly set your drive in the 512 mode temporarily, which is the modern way (1990+).
The errors gives the impression the binary is either corrupted or is the wrong or an unexpected format. I run SUN 2X CDROM drives, Plextor 40x SCSI CDROM, and Toshiba DVD drives, forcing 512 on any of them makes the boot process from Irix CDs (real media from SGI factory, not burnt) fail to boot.
So again, set ID optical drive ID to 4 or 6 for convention and place the 512 jumper back in factory 2048 mode.
Failing that, it’s your RAM, start juggling DIMMs until it works.
That’s all, I will be unsubscribing from this thread from this point. So do what you will.
Ok, no need to be nervous, first thank you very much for your help, second i solved it... Booterizer not working in either way (except RasPI - didn't try, don't have it). I installed IRIX via this link http://techpubs.spinlocksolutions.com/irix/remote-irix-6.5-installation-from-linux.html and it's moderately easy to install except you have to put .rhosts file as a root in root directory for Octane to be able to connect to Ubuntu (figured it out by myself). The external DVD is actually working BUT i've noticed not for binaries (i suppose that infomous 2048/512 setting), that's why it gave errors in PROM, as soon as i established bootp link with my Ubuntu i was able to boot fx.64 correctly. Thank you very much again!

Yeah, i know, now when i sold it i'm nostalgic about it... yes i've watched your videos, they are really mandatory for SGI community in my opinion!
