Network installing is a lot easier. Critics of me don't like it when I recommend Solaris or a net BSD for it but it's definitely not easy to configure Linux or Ubuntu or debug any issues with it. On the wiki we have several guides.

If you have another system network installing from irix is pretty easy and the best method possible
