Restriction of debates
I was inspired to create this discussion after reading this article:

I agree with them that the threat of ideological conformity has hurt debates. People would rather create safe spaces where they don't have to be debated or challenged about their beliefs rather than encourage open discussion. This is not just in the domain of politics, but also in areas like gaming (see Last of Us getting critical acclaim but mixed reviews from users and dismissiveness on the problems of the game) and technology. I've seen increasing posts trying to equate proprietary software with the big F word, Fascist. I've seen how some people don't want to debate anything but rather would either shrink away from it to a safe space or attempt a character assassination by only engaging in personal attacks.
