Hi,
today I received an HD Sled which I bought on ebay. The Sled contained a 4GB Disk which I would not use … but I was curious and it contained data. According to the filenames it must be some CAD-Files. The easiest way for me was to just give it a try with AutoCAD R13 … I used the Software Installer and the install process went through flawlessly. acad did not start becaused "libcommand.su" was missing … I turned my Octane off … few hours later I fired it up again and 
The Desktop has no Dumpster and no other Icons. I opened a file window: The Filename where present, but no icons … 

Does anyone know what went wrong and how I can fix it?

During installation I was indeed logged in as root. But the icons are not only removed from desktop, they are gone from the whole UI. A file window only show the file name and it's not possible to open any file, neither with mouse nor with keyboard shortcut.

So you're not able to start autocad from the command prompt? I don't have autocad, I assume there's some sort of shell script that starts it. For that matter, are you able to start any executable from the command prompt? You apparently have the file manager running, how did you start that?

I recently experienced this, and for me the fix involved re-setting these chkconfig options:

chkconfig desktop should be on
chkconfig mediad should be on
chkconfig autofs should be on
chkconfig soundscheme should be on

After rebooting, the desktop was back.

Thanks for your replies.
@vishnu the reason autocad did not start was a missing lib … I managed to view the files in a different way.

all of those are set to 'on'
I attached a screenshot so you can see how the UI looks now.
The weird thing is, when I open a shell window and i.e. change to the Desktop folder, the links to dumpser and home folder are present. It's just like the Icon-Files it self are missing.

Yes I can see the attachment.

Do you have a .4Dwmrc file (note the leading dot)? If so, how does it differ from /usr/lib/X11/system.4Dwmrc
