Tell me about it...
For music, I honestly only hear the difference for instrumental music, mostly jazz and the classics, and good electronic music. But, oh, the difference is incredible. Especially for classical music - it really feels like being there.
Do you know the Norwegian studio 2L? My favourite classical recordings.
Once I saw a picture of their studio - can't find it anymore. Easily 10 million euros of equipment in a single room.

http://www.2l.no/pages/album/106.html -> I've been listening to this album once a week for 10 years.

OK, it’s finally completely dismantled and cleaned! (I'm still going to have to give the yoke on the tube a good careful deep clean.)

I wouldn't advise further disassembly of the CRT. The yoke is adjusted to give the proper alignment and rotation and shouldn't need to be tweaked. To get as much dust out as possible, you could use canned air in concert with a vacuum cleaner. (A bare CRT together with its yoke is not at all sensitive to Electrostatic Discharge, but shouldn't be touched with strong magnets. The printed circuits with semiconductor components are the opposite, as they can be damaged by ESD.)

In the penultimate image you can see the degauss coil. This set is unusual in that there are 6 coils! You can also see the braided steel ground straps that hug the back of the tube's bell. They make contact with the aquadag on the outside, forming one half of the internal EHT capacitor. The other half is the dag painted on the inside, that connects to the anode cap via the button on top of the bell.

One thing that's interesting is that many displays had separate models for the North and South hemispheres because the Earth's magnetic field differs in its vertical component. The field's horizontal component is nulled by the built-in degauss coil.

NO, NO, I absolutely don't intend disassembling the yoke at all, but just want to get as much of the grime off it and dust out of it as possible. (As you've suggested, I intend to make use of canned air to clean it out Smile )

Thanks again for the inputs, Really appreciate them! Smile

Because I work in ballistics, I (we) are required to take hearing tests every six months, so far my hearing has held up okay, because I've always either held my ears or used industrial earphones. For those who have never done so, standing a few yards away from a 120mm main battle tank gun when it's fired is an interesting experience.

In the aviation environment we also have to do annual hearing tests as part of our flight medicals, as there's also allot of noise in this business. (The nice thing about this is that they carry out a thorough check of all your vitals including ECG, lung function and blood work annually, so you can get a heads up if you have any developing medical issues.)

I'm pretty sensitive to loud noises and always wear ear protection when I'm in and around aircraft. (So my hearings still very good.)

For now it’s back to this system:

I should hopefully get this 17" Studio Display back together in the next week or so. Smile
I need to finish polishing the stand up and see if I can't tweak it a bit before refitting its cover.

The 17" Studio Display (Bubble Monitor) is now sorted, so I'll get back to the 21" Blueberry as soon as I can. Smile

I’m slowly starting with the reassembly:

I'm going to reassemble it completely and will remove the deflection board later, once I'm ready to replace the flyback transformer. (The new one has arrived in the country)
