Need help cloning Prism drives.
Hey Guys,
I need to clone some Prism root drives and have very little UNIX experience.
Since these are SATA drives, can these be put into an dual external USB SATA adapter and duplicated on a windows machine? Would something like Macrium Reflect work with these?

Thanks,
John

RE: Need help cloning Prism drives.
Prisms should be Linux (they are Itanium Intel 64 bit processors). So...linux? They really should be like GPT disks, they aren't Irix or anything special. In terms of automation, you could view them under a partition editor and check the complexity of the layout. IF it's normal looking GPT, I'd try clonezilla or just the old standby of DD the old drives to new drives of the same size or larger, then expand the partitions as needed.

 Yes they are Linux.
I will have to look up half of what you said as I am a linux noob.
Thanks!

RE: Need help cloning Prism drives.
Hey Guys,
I was successful cloning the Linux drive using Macrium Reflex software on my windows PC.
This system also worked with a cloned Samsung 500Gb SSD.

Here is before and after the clone, disk 3 is the SGI Prism disk and disk 4 is the drive being cloned to.

This is after the clone.

After the clone the drive would not boot automatically and I had to create a boot option in the EFI setup.
You go to the "Boot Option Maintenance Menu"
 Select "Add Boot"
 Select "Add Boot Option"
Select the drive mine was PCI (3:0)
 Select <DIR> EFI
 Select <DIR> SGI
 Select Elilo.efi
 Enter a text description
 "N" for no boot option
"Y" for "save changes to NVRAM"
 Exit
Exit

The option is now in the EFI boot list, but not on top.
You have to go into "Change boot order" in the maintenance menu,
Arrow up or down to highlight your new boot description and then use the "U" & "D" keys to put it on top.

Exit the maintenance menu and you are done. select your description and hit enter.
Because it is the first item on the list it will automatically start your option on next boot.
